ABOUT ISO 9000
The ISO 9000 series consists of ten individual standards. A future
nine standards, numbered in the ten thousand series, make up a
comprehensive quality management and quality assurance family of
international standards. ISO 9001, ISO 9002 and ISO are the
standards which companies can be registered against and which appear
on certificates.
Other standards
published in this series are either guidelines relating to
developing a manual, guidelines for auditors conducting assessment
against the standards, requirements for equipment used by registered
companies or a glossary of terms used. All ISO 9000 and associated

Quality systems
- Model for Quality Assurance in design, development, production,
installation and servicing
This standard
specific the quality systems that are implemented relating to
design, development, production, delivery and supply. Companies or
individuals operating in these areas are required to demonstrate a
quality systems is in place and are assessed against this standard.
A manufacturing company supplying a product designed specifically to
a customer's requirements is likely to work to ISO 9001. This would
equally apply to architects designing anew building or a software
house designing a new program .
Quality Systems-
Model for Organisation's Quality Assurance in production,
installation and servicing
ISO 9002 relates to products conforming to specified requirements
during production, installation and servicing Companies registered
to this standard are assessed against theses quality requirements.
Suppliers of a standard product a service with to design input will
work to ISO 9002. Examples of these would include a transport
company, a stockist or a company producing plastic injection moulded
parts.
Quality Systems-
Model for Quality Assurance in final inspection test.
Where quality
assurance relates to a supplier's ability to detect and control a
product's non-conformity during final inspection, they will be
registered to ISO 9003. A typical activity where final inspection
can assess the quality of the product or service is window cleaning.
